In 1800, Dean’s property was built, in order to be a place for retirement and relaxation by its owners, Mr. Felipe Enrique Carcelén Y Sánchez  De Orellana and Mrs. Teresa Larrea y Jijón, Solanda and Villarocha’s Marquess.

Miss Mariana Carcelén Larrea, one of their four daughters, in 1928 married the independence Latin - American hero, Antonio José De Sucre y Alcalá, Mariscal and winner of some battles, such as Tarqui y Ayacucho. The celebration took part in Mansion del Dean, which became the couple’s and their daughter’s favorite place to rest. Here, typical parties of that era, attended by Quito’s clergy and high society, took place.

Two years after Antonio José was murdered in Berruecos, Colombia, the widow, Mariana, recovered her husband’s dead body and hid it in Mansion del Dean’s chapel. Afterwards, his body was transferred to the convent of Marianitas and later on to Quito’s cathedral, where the body still remains.

Since Marquess’ death, in 1863, Dean’s property has belonged to several remarkable families, whose members still remember countless magical legends and stories in the place that was built for placidness and rest.

Today, Mansion del Dean is still alive with its awesome architecture and more than 209 years of history.
